Quickstart

Two ways to start — your own computer in one minute, or a Linux server in five.

OpsGates connects your AI apps (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor…) to the machines you choose:

  • Your computer (Windows, Mac or Linux) — the easiest: one command and you approve it in your browser. See Your computer.
  • A Linux server or VPS — the most private: the agent runs on your server and your AI app talks to it directly. The steps below.

Both use the same account, plan and tool calls.

1. Create your account

Sign up with your email. The Free plan includes 2,000 tool calls per month, unlimited servers and computers. No card is needed.

2. Add a server

In the dashboard, open Servers → Add a server, give it a name (only for you) and click Create license key. You get a command like this:

curl -fsSL https://mcp.opsgates.com/install.sh | sudo bash -s -- --key og_your_key

The key is shown once. If you lose it, just add the server again and remove the old entry.

3. Run the command on your server

Connect to your Linux server with SSH and paste the command. The installer:

  • checks your license key,
  • downloads the agent and verifies its checksum,
  • installs it as a locked-down opsgate service (it never runs as root),
  • sets up HTTPS (EasyPanel, Caddy or nginx — detected automatically),
  • creates your login password on the server and prints it once.

At the end you see something like:

OpsGates is installed.

  Connector URL https://203-0-113-7.sslip.io/mcp
  Login password h7Kq2-9xLmP-a3RtZ-Q8wVe

Save the password in your password manager. It exists only on your server; we never see it. Forgot it? Run sudo opsgate password on the server to get a new one.

No domain name? No problem. The installer uses a free automatic address based on your server's IP (<ip>.sslip.io) and gets a real HTTPS certificate for it. You can switch to your own domain later with --domain.

4. Connect Claude

  1. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
  2. Paste the connector URL and click Add, then Connect.
  3. A sign-in page opens. It is served by your server. Enter the login password and click Allow.

That's it. Ask something like:

"Using OpsGates, show me the disk usage and the last 20 lines of the nginx error log."

Using ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor or another client? See Connect ChatGPT and Other clients.

5. Decide what the AI may change

Out of the box the agent can read the server as an unprivileged user, but it cannot modify files or restart services. Allow exactly what you need:

sudo opsgate allow-write /var/www/myapp # edit files in this folder
sudo opsgate allow-restart nginx # restart/reload this service

Even then, every change is shown as a preview and only happens after you confirm it in the chat. See Permissions.
